Little Wins This Week #11

Little Wins This Week is about remembering that little things add up to make a big difference. It is about counting small blessings, however insignificant they may seem. Little Wins is about being mindful, staying positive and making each day count.

The entire focus this week has been on better parenting. As I mentioned last week, we have decided to take a completely different approach to parenthood and it seems to be working. The whole week has gone by without tempers or tantrums. J is enjoying the feeling of being in charge of his own decisions and I love the no-nagging approach.

Any potential melt-downs have been averted with peace and love. I have enveloped J in bear hugs when he has been distressed and reasoned in a calm, quiet voice. I have wiped his tears, acknowledged his emotions and offered the sensible choice every time. My son has responded to my lead and we seem to be in a better place as a family.

The highlight of this week has been watching J perform. I had the joy and privilege of watching him play in not one, but two musical concerts. I could barely contain my pride as I watched my little boy, so focussed and determined, as he strummed the ukulele, sang in a choir and belted out a Samba rhythm on A-go-go bell.

We also had the Easter parade at school. J was in his element in his fabulous Easter hat decorated with mini eggs, flowers and chicks. We were treated to some delightful spring tunes, some of which will stay with us well beyond the primary school years.

I have been under the weather this week, but nothing that a trip to our local walk-in centre couldn’t solve. I was once again impressed by the efficiency of the NHS and how fortunate we are to have this institution.

I wrote about emotional independence a few weeks ago. I can only reiterate how liberated I feel since discovering that I alone hold the key to my happiness. I need to carry on being mindful, remember to breathe and not rise to the bait.

These have been my Little Wins This Week. I sincerely hope you have had little wins this week too.
