Little Wins This Week #7

Little Wins This Week is about remembering that little things add up to make a big difference. It is about counting small blessings, however insignificant they may seem. Little Wins is about being mindful, staying positive and making each day count.

I need to recount my little wins this week more than any other as it has been a week of few ups and many downs. So it is imperative that I focus on the few ups, the little wins I had this week.

I put in three solid sessions at the gym this week, each over an hour long and clocked up over 20 miles on the exercise bike. It may not sound like a lot, but I included sessions on the rower and cross trainer to go with the bike. The focus on the bicycle was mainly interval training at moderate intensity, and I think I did reasonably well starting off with 30 second bursts and progressing to 2 minute intervals by the end of the week. There is tremendous scope for improvement, as always.

Emotional independence is the key to happiness

I have also added a few repetitions with weights to my gym routine. I have never been a fan of weights, perhaps because I never used them correctly and ended up getting injured. That’s not the case now. Regular cycling over the last year means I have built up endurance and strength to a reasonable level. I listen to my body now, and know how far I can push myself. It’s leg adductors and abductors that are in focus for now, as I need those muscles in good shape for future long-distance bicycle rides.

I was out with the girls on Friday night. We met for a few gins and lots of laughs. It was a refreshing break in an otherwise horrendous week. As expected, they have convinced me that I am quite capable of doing the Coast To Coast bicycle ride this summer. I have agreed, but I still have my reservations. I will continue to train. Whether or not I actually manage the entire ride, we shall see.

I had a moment of epiphany one day this week and I may have unearthed the real reasons behind my frustrations and irritability. Emotional independence is key to my well-being, and I am on a path to achieving it, thanks to mindfulness. I must remember to breathe.

These are my Little Wins This Week. What have yours been?
