Little Wins This Week #5

I started blogging about my Little Wins This Week in the hope that it will help me shift focus from the misery and dissatisfaction to the things that really matter. I hoped it would help realign my thoughts when I am emotionally labile, stressed, upset and unable to focus on the happy.

And you know what. It is working.

As I sit here now trying to write about my Little Wins This Week, I am making an effort to pick out the positives from the tangled mess of negativity in my head. And it is working.

There are weeks when you just can’t see the positives, no matter how hard you try. This has been one such week. I have tried and failed at staying calm and in control. I have resorted to uncontrolled emotional eating. I have fallen behind in doing things I should have done before the start of half-term.

But guess what. As I sit here now trying to write about my Little Wins This Week, I am making an effort to pick out the positives from the tangled mess of negativity in my head. And it is working to ease the agitation and the irrational thinking. I can feel myself breathing deeper and easier. The knots in my neck are loosening and the furrows in my brow are relaxing. I am beginning to believe once more.

So here are my little wins this week.
  • I finished five weeks in my new job. I am enjoying it and think I may have finally found my calling in life. Apart from writing, that is.
  • I went to a Zumba class this week after about three years away. Every bone, every muscle, every sinew in my body hurt the next day, but boy did I love grooving to the music!
  • I am blessed to be a mother to a kind, compassionate and loving son. We are here right now, watching Despicable Me 2 on tv and life feels good.
  • M has cooked pasta in a creamy mushroom sauce for dinner tonight. I intend to relish it with a glass of chilled white wine.
  • I spent yesterday in the company of friends. There was good food, good conversation and we finished by watching Looper on BBC1. It is a brilliant sci-fi film and I recommend you watch it if you haven’t done so already.
  • I have started reading an incredibly gripping book called The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It has been made into a television series, which I shall try and watch after finishing the book.
  • I have made a concentrated effort to avoid looking at my smartphone first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I intend to take this a step further and impose no-phone time slots into my daily routine.

These are my Little Wins This Week. I hope you have something good, something positive to focus on too, this week and in the weeks to come.
