Green Energy - We Owe It To Ourselves

I was out Christmas shopping at the Trafford Centre recently and happened to watch one of the car demos they often do in the foyers. It was a massive 7-seater SUV, very modern and very striking. Closer inspection revealed it to be a Tesla. Only, this was an electric car like no other I had ever seen.

The time has come to phase out the internal combustion engine altogether in favour of greener, more sustainable options. No matter what anyone says, and there are many with a vested interest who will try and convince you otherwise, green energy is the need of the day.

I mean, who would have thought an SUV boasting state-of-the-art tech and impressive falcon wings could be powered by electricity? It looked almost other-wordly. Said Tesla Model X is capable of doing over 300 miles in a single charge. With ever-improving electric charging capacity, like that provided by NewMotion charging stations, there is no limit to how far you can travel in one of these modern marvels.

With such impressive specifications on offer, there is no reason why more of us, all of us, should be looking to make the switch from the traditional car to a greener one.

I would like to take this a step further. Maybe the time has come to phase out the internal combustion engine altogether in favour of greener, more sustainable options. Think machinery, aircraft, anything that is powered by burning fuel. Combustion of any fuel, be it petrol, diesel, coal or biofuel is responsible for increasing levels of air and noise pollution, and the health issues that go with these.

If the recent smog over Delhi is anything to go by, it may not be long before our beautiful planet becomes incapable of supporting any form of life. No matter what anyone says, and there are many with a vested interest who will try and convince you otherwise, green energy is the need of the day.

Through the ages, humans have shown they can be resourceful when it comes to inventing out of necessity. Solar and wind power are here for the taking. All we need do is apply ourselves and figure out ingenious ways to harness these abundant resources. We need to do this, and do this now before it is too late. We owe it to ourselves.
