Air Hogs Foot Powered Jet Rocket Review

Now there's a reaction every parent aspires to get from their child when they are presented with a new toy.

And that is precisely the reaction we got from our 6 year old after he had launched the Air Hogs Foot Powered Jet Rocket.

Air Hogs Foot Powered Jet Rocket Review

This toy from Spinmaster wins on so many fronts.
It is easy to assemble and easier still to dismantle for storage in its box. All you do is clip on three supports to the base, feed one end of the rubber tubing into it, attach the foot pump firmly to the other end of the tube and you are good to go. Just remember to place the rocket on the hollow pipe projecting out of the base.

It is operated by foot power alone and does not require batteries. This is a huge plus as far as I am concerned, for batteries can be such a drain! A firm foot stomp on the pump should propel the rocket up into the sky. The greater the effort of the stomp, the higher the rocket gets propelled.

The rocket itself is a light, hollow tube with a conical foam nose. It means injury is unlikely even if it does land on your head on re-entry. I should know. J was the rocket launcher but I was the one scrambling around trying to retrieve the rocket as it descended back to earth.

That said, the Air Hogs Foot Powered Jet Rocket seems to get propelled more or less in a straight vertical line most of the time. I guess it has something to do with the design and placement of the base assembly flat on the ground. We haven't tried it yet, but a little manipulation might result in a different trajectory. This may result in the rocket landing in the neighbour's garden or getting stuck up a tree, so perhaps best left untested unless we head to the park to play.

Which brings me to my next point. I would recommend launching the Air Hogs Foot Powered Jet Rocket in a clear open space for the aforementioned reasons. Last thing you want is an upset child because their new favourite toy is now stuck up a tree!

What makes the Air Hogs Foot Powered Jet Rocket special in my opinion is the simplicity of design and the ease of operation. It is a rocket that your child can launch into orbit with a stomp. That has to open a whole new world of imaginary play, a world I look forward to exploring with my son.
