Summer at The Waterside Arts Centre

It is the first day of the summer holidays and J and I have embarked on a fun-filled day. We have a relaxed morning at home before heading out to the local library to register for the Summer Reading Challenge. Next stop, The Waterside Arts Centre in Sale to watch a performance of The House at the Edge of the Universe.

Now You Are Five

Remember that deliciously decadent drinking chocolate cake I baked the other day? It was a birthday cake for my son who turned five.

The party is over, the cake has been eaten, the presents unwrapped and thank you notes written. I can now sit back and breathe. And find the time to write what it means to be a mother to a five year old little boy.

Now You Are Five: What it means to be a mother to a five year old little boy

This one's for you, J. You are, and always will be my cherished little baby boy.

My New Shoes from Brantano

Can a girl really have too many shoes? The answer is a definite, "No!" There is always a new colour, a new style or a new pattern that necessitates expanding one's shoe collection.

So it should come as no surprise that when Brantano requested to work with me, I accepted with glee. I had to chose a pair of shoes from their current season's range. Not an easy task, given that they have a wide range of brands to choose from and a great mix of colours and styles.

My Plans for This Summer

School is almost out, and we cannot wait to get started with the summer holidays. We still have a week and a bit before we finally break for the summer.

I am not a fan of routines and am really looking forward to a nice, long break of taking it easy. I have a suspicion my son is too!

My Plans for This Summer: something of a summer bucket list. Or just ideas for a good time over the holidays.

Olympics-Inspired Table Decoration

We have had a miserable summer so far. The politics of the country and the mood of the people both have been distinctly gloomy. The weather just seems to reflect the general goings-on in the land.

Drinking Chocolate Cake

What do you do when you want to bake a chocolate cake and realise you have run out of cocoa? Go out and buy some. Or, get adventurous and use drinking chocolate in your bake instead.

Sky Blanket 2016: June Update

What a difference a year makes! Last June saw Britain basking in a heat wave with record temperatures in the late 30s. This year, as if in reflection of the turmoil facing us on the political scene, June has been a largely dull, damp and grey month  with only occasional glimpses of the summer sun. It has been distinctly bleak, again an echo of the general mood in the country. The unseasonable weather means that I have had to abandon my principles of never having the heating on in summer!
