Blogging Means...

What does blogging mean to me?

More likes, more comments,
More shares, more threads.
Whatever's happened to
Just writing what's in my head?

Giveaways, competitions,
Instagram and linkies,
Twitter parties, FB groups
G+ and admin duties.

Products and reviews,
Media packs and pitches,
Budgets and deadlines,
Just far too many glitches.

Analytics, schedules,
Photos, videos, RTs,
Follows, clicks, shares
Klout and pinning parties.

When I started blogging
Little did I know,
A minefield awaited me
Garbled in html code.

All I wanted was to
Write what I felt
Give an outlet to all
The voices in my head.

I really was that naive
I didn't have a clue
Of domains or rankings
And page views too.

What is  pro-blogging?
Clueless I remain,
Steady income, a distant dream,
But I do have my own domain!

Flow of ideas have ebbed
Creativity not far behind,
Caught up in a mad frenzy,
No time to write or rhyme.

Disillusioned, disheartened,
Do I start over again?
Or give up altogether,
From blogging do I refrain?

Change tack, switch gears,
Best get a plan in place,
To write sorry little poems
About my blogging disgrace!

Prose for Thought

  1. This is great. Well done you for getting it all into a poem. It sums up my blogging life perfectly x

  2. There's no disgrace! I have felt much like this recently, in fact I wrote about it a few weeks ago, and I have taken a huge step back from it all. All the linking etc. has got a bit out of hand, I'm now being very selective with what I spend my time on :) #prose4t is one that I return to though! Great poem, captures that feeling of being overwhelmed by it all x

  3. There is no disgrace! I also entered the blogging world with the idea of "write it and they will come". It's not true. So much time is spent on promotion. I have stopped worrying about figures as much and try to write for myself.

  4. What a fantastic poem, I'm often having similar thoughts x

  5. Love this - so true right now. I spend more time promoting than actually writing. I will be having a blog review in the new year! Kaz x

  6. This is brilliant and yeah what is pro-blogging? x

  7. Brilliant poem and completely spot on. I love blogging and have always done it as a hobby. I do wonder sometimes though whether I should stop or carry on. I find it hard to step back from it. The new baby has meant I have no choice right now though!

  8. It's great to see everyone has similar thoughts, I've lost sight of why I wanted to do it. Love that you've put it into a poem.

  9. great poem, and so totally true. I think lots of us get too caught up in it all and forget why we started blogging! I now just blog for me, they read, great they don't no problem. Thank you for your lovely comment on my post glad to see you are getting past your writer's block with this #Prose4T

  10. Oh so true. Never thought I would see a poem about blogging

  11. I love this! I find it so hard to keep up with what's in and out with blogging and it's even more difficult with a proper job too. I maintain that there are no rights and wrongs. At the end of the day, a blog, has always been and should always be, your personal space on the internet and you should never feel pressured to write when you're not in the mood. It should be one of your happy places, not an extra chore :)

    Perfect verses for #prose4t :)

  12. I love this! Very true and I like the poem form!

  13. Great to see that all the paraphernalia hasn't squeezed the creativity or humour out of you.

    1. Thanks :-) It almost did, but I fought back and managed to get some of it back!

  14. Great poem! I started my blog as a hobby, struggled for a bit trying to put it out there but I just don't seem to have the time so it's back to being purely a hobby, if I write I write and hope people read it but don't stress too much if they don't xx

  15. This is like you got inside my head last week and wrote!! Wow! And there was I chatting to you on Saturday about all this and not having read your poem either. Fabulous :). It is great to see you back on this! Thank you for linking to Prose for Thought and I hope to see you tomorrow x

  16. This is great! It sums up blogging perfectly and the fact you got it together in a poem is fab :)
