The Solitary Sentinel

School Run Colours
Alone, watchful, standing tall
Through mornings cold and grey
Lighting up long black nights
Inky darkness fades away.

Years go by gazing down
As the world passes in a daze
Not a soul to look up, notice
The steady glow ablaze.

Unobtrusive and unfazed,
Weathering storms and rain
The solitary sentinel stands guard
Against Shadow's dark domain.

Prose for Thought

  1. I really like that. We often forget how important these solitary sentinels are during the dark nights and our busy 24 hour a day lifestyle. I love how it stands against that blue sky. #SchoolRunColours

  2. Wow, this is really well written. It's funny how we ignore these things and a poem like this makes you realise. Brilliant. xx #Prose4T

  3. Great photo and true words, we only ever notice ours when they're not working.

    1. Same here. But now I do tend to look at them more often, when they are all bright and glowing.

  4. Great post hun. Thanks for linking up to #PointShoot x

  5. That's a gorgeous poem. I love the alliteration in it and such wonderful imagery too. I especially love the final verse.

  6. Oh my goodness, this has to be one of my absolute favourites of yours Vai. It just shows the power of poetry when it can turn such an ordinary object into something you look at in a whole new light. Thank you for linking to Prose for Thought x

  7. I agree with the comments already made, how an ordinary object can be turned into something majestic and important simply through carefully chosen and arranged words.

  8. Love this, I agree with Vicky, I think this is one of my favourites of yours. Brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing with #ThePrompt x

  9. Great Poem! What a way to look at something that we often pass by! Love this!

  10. Love this! What a great way to look at an object that I wouldn't normally even think about. Brilliant x
