Toy Story

I have said it before, and I will say it again. We don't really do Halloween. I am not one for scary, spooky anything. And I don't suspect that at two, J is too keen to be worried and scared by ghouly ghostly monsters either. We did craft a sock monster as our homage to Halloween. But that is about as far as I am willing to go with gore. At least for the time being.

So what do we do the weekend before Halloween?  We head into Altrincham Town Centre to stock up on our craft supplies.  Now there is a ghost town if there ever was one!

We were in for a  pleasant surprise. The Altrincham Film Club was hosting a free screening of Toy Story as part of the Altrincham Arts Festival. It was a lovely initiative to fill the many empty shops in the town centre with exhibitions, workshops and events, an attempt to breathe a little life into the town centre.

Free film and free sweets

J has never been to the cinema before. This was the perfect opportunity to find out what he would make of the whole experience. We decided to give it a go, thoroughly expecting to walk out within the first fifteen minutes.

We were pleasantly surprised for the second time that day. J sat watching the film with rapt attention for the first hour or so. The free packet of sweeties that came with the film saw him through the rest of it.

The child has not stopped talking about Buzz Lightyear since.

The character of Sid, the nasty kid-next-door who mistreats and blows up his toys, was scary enough for me. His mutant toys had me running for cover. None of it made an impact on J.

Looks like we will be celebrating Halloween with blood, gore and more before long!

  1. Lovely post, I'm not one for Halloween either. Toy story is a great film!

    1. Love it! It was so nice to watch it after soo many years.

  2. I am with you, i am not a halloween person. It certainly looks like you had fun doing your non halloween thing :-)

    1. Great fun! Couldn't believe they had a free screening in an empty shop. x

  3. Great post! It gets more difficult to avoid as they get older... :)
