Tenerife has been on our list of places to visit ever since a friend went on holiday there a couple of years ago. Not content with taking her word for it, we have been doing our own research into why Tenerife is perfect for a family holiday. And what could be better than to base our expeditions out of a beautiful private villa in Tenerife.
Learning need never be boring. Family travel is a great opportunity to widen horizons and broaden understanding, age notwithstanding. So our top six things to do when you are six feature a mix of entertaining and educational attractions. A balance of natural wonders, architectural gems and fun days out that aim to capture the essence of Tenerife.
Here are our top six things to do in Tenerife when you are six.
Teide National Park and Volcan El Teide
This almost lunar landscape of volcanic rock formations is a must-visit for all fans of geology and volcanoes. Who wants to read about solidified lava when you can acutally walk on it!
Sun, sand and sea. A combination so elusive in Britain but ever-so-abundant in Tenerife, that an entire holiday may not be enough to take it all in. From the white sands of Playa del Duque, the golden sands of Playa de las Vistas to the blue flag, black sands of Playa El Médano and Playa Jardin, relax and unwind or enjoy sports. The choice is yours. Or may be dictated by the kids!
With the Atlantic Ocean a breath away, a boat tour to go dolphin and whale watching is a must. Why not opt for a more authentic sailing experience?
Okay, so we are on a nautical theme now. Not surprising, given that we are on holiday on an island in the middle of the ocean. What six year old (or anybody for that matter) will not relish the chance of riding in a real submarine! There can be no better way of exploring the depths of the ocean around Tenerife.
City of San Cristóbal de La Laguna is a world heritage site and a beautiful lesson in history and architecture.
Buy a two-in-one ticket and save money on this one. Loro Parque is a zoo and aquarium housing over 100 varied species of land and aquatic animals. Siam Park is a water-based adventure theme park. Expect to get soaked on your day out here!
