Have you had a chance to look at my Instagram recently? Take a look and you will know how much I love being behind the camera. Scroll through my feed and you will notice a distinct lack of family photos. I am not one for selfies, with or without sticks. Timers don’t give me the candid look I crave in my perfect family photo. Little wonder then, that J, M and I don’t have a single ‘in-the-moment’ photograph together.
I want to change that, and change it now. I am looking to hire a professional photographer in Manchester, someone who can capture the essence of what it means to be the three of us.
When I chanced upon Bidvine. It is a website that does the legwork of collecting quotes for you. All you do is create a job-request for what you want done. Answer a few questions, then get quotes from professionals in the area who match your criteria. You then compare and choose the best one for you.
There are all sorts of services on offer from hobby lessons to workmen. I was looking for a portrait photographer.
First things first. I was prompted to create an account using either my Facebook or G+ id, or an email. I then had to input my postcode to make sure the bids came from professionals local to me.
Next, a series of questions that would give the professionals looking at my request an idea of what I want. I was asked to choose the type of portrait photos I was after and where I wanted them clicked. I had to put in the style of images I wanted, a budget and how urgent the job needed doing. I opted to have the photographer travel to us, rather than us going over to a studio.
All this took about 10 minutes. Once I had submitted my request, I got a confirmation email to say my project was registered and that I would get up to 5 quotes within the next 5 days.
I have already received one quote, which looks promising enough. I hope to get a couple more so I can compare the bids, check Bidvine for any previous reviews and pick one that suits us.
Who knows? I might just get that elusive family photo in time for Christmas.
