Quay House Beefeater Grill and Restaurant

The sun is playing hide and seek behind a curtain of clouds as we make our way to the waterfront at Salford Quays. Oblivious to the cool wind, the watersports centre is bustling with people honing their skills. We pull our jackets close as we enter the warm and welcoming interiors of the Quay House Beefeater Grill and Restaurant.

We are ushered through the downstairs bar area to the restaurant upstairs. J promptly makes a beeline for a table near the window overlooking the action on the waterfront.

As we sit down and peruse the menu, I am struck by the spacious layout of this Beefeater restaurant and the fun wall-art. If looking out at people wakeboarding on the water is not your cup of tea, you can always marvel at the interesting bits of trivia that adorn the walls of the Quay House.

It doesn’t take us long to decide on our meals. J is completely taken in by the Mr Men and Little Miss children’s menu. Unsurprising, given that he has the entire collection of books and a Mr Men duvet set at home. He dwells on Mr Bump’s route home through a maze while guzzling a bottle of Fruit Shoot. M rather sedately opts for a cola (he is driving us home, so doesn’t have a choice). Spurred on by the hint of sunshine, I settle for a pear cider.

The starters arrive. J has garlic bread, M has gone for the divine looking king prawns in garlic and parsley butter served with a piece of ciabatta. They tastes just as good as they look. I go for an old favourite – loaded potato skins. J finishes his garlic bread and swiftly tucks into my dippers, a testament to how good our starters are.

No steaks, we go for a variety of burgers as our mains. J orders a steak burger with chips and corn on the cob. M has the cheese and mushroom steak burger, while I go all out with a double bacon and cheese steak burger. The last time I ate a double burger was when I was pregnant with J and couldn’t keep anything down except for potatoes and burgers. Talk about bizarre pregnancy cravings!

Our burgers arrive looking enormous and delicious. Both M and I have opted for spicy chunky fries, which look terribly inviting. The coleslaw comes in cute little mason jars complete with air-tight clips.

For dessert, J has his favourite vanilla ice-cream with a drizzle of chocolate sauce. He is chuffed to bits by the huge wafer that comes with it.

M settles on a warm chocolate brownie served with a dollop of vanilla ice-cream. I indulge my sweet tooth with the new chocolate rum melt pudding. It is a bowl of vanilla ice-cream topped with crispy set chocolate and is accompanied by a jug of warm rum syrup. Need I say more!

All the food we ate is delicious, the portions generous. The service is friendly and faultless. The bill arrives, and I am pleasantly surprised by how economical this whole outing has been. You really can't ask for more when out for a family meal.

The Beefeater has lots of ongoing promotions that are sure to save you a pretty penny. Like children getting free main courses on Saturday afternoons.

  2. It looks lovely and very different to my memories of Beefeaters from the 1970s and 1980s. I love a good steak so I'm always happy to visit a steak house.

    1. I am not such a steak fan, more grills and burgers for me. Bet the steak here is just as good as the burgers we had.

  7. I have never been to a beefeater in years. I am something of a snob and their reputation always put me off!

    1. It did feel like that, Agata. Guess that's a good effect when you are eating huge steaks.
