Starting out with The Slimpod

Comfort Eating

Anybody who knows me will know that I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. It does not help that I am an emotional eater. I eat when I am happy. I eat when I am sad. I eat when I am bored. I eat when I am stressed. Whatever I am thinking, however I may be feeling, I always end up finding refuge in food.

Starting out with the Slimpod
I know exactly how and why I have developed into a comfort-eater. I also know that it is not good for me. At all. The only trouble is I cannot seem to translate this knowledge into practice. So I know what food is good for me, that I should only eat when I am hungry, I should not snack. But the chocolate-craving part of my brain keeps over-riding this sensible part of me, and I end up reaching for food.

Diets Never Work
Little wonder then, that diets never seem to work for me. Not that I have been on any. For again, I completely understand the dangers of yo-yo dieting where you lose all the wight only for it to come back with a vengeance once the diet stops. And I wouldn't ever dream of cutting out an entire food group out of my diet for any length of time. That is just unhealthy, perhaps even more so than being overweight.

I Got Pregnant
There was a time just before I fell pregnant when I had got into a lovely routine of exercise and sensible eating. Then came 20-odd weeks of incessant morning sickness that did their bit to add to the weight loss. I had positively shrunk at that stage. I thought, yes, I have done it! And I am going to make it last. It was not to be. Pregnancy cravings took hold, and I soon made up for all the lost time. And more.

Breast-feeding and Weight

Next, I fell pray to the myth that as long as you breast-feed, all the pregnancy weight will just melt away.  I did breast-feed, which made me terribly hungry all the time. So I ate. And even when I stopped breast-feeding, I carried on eating.

Need For Change

3 years on, I was back where I began. Perhaps worse than before, for mothering a toddler is an emotional roller-coaster. And food was my saviour.

This had to stop. It had to change. I was searching for something to trigger me back to that pre-pregnancy mind-set of healthy eating and exercise. I was looking for a life-style change. Anyone who read my resolutions for this new year would know.

The Slimpod
That is when I found the Slimpod. Slimpods are unique voice recordings that work at a subconscious level to change the way you think about food. It is not about diets, it is about making the right choices. All it takes is 10 minutes of your time, first thing in the morning or last thing at night. All you do is listen to the Slimpod and let it do the rest.

Starting Out with the Slimpod
I began my Slimpod journey just over a week back, and have noticed a few changes already. I have stopped snacking, I am eating three good meals instead. And am drinking a lot more water. I have been feeling a lot more energetic than the weeks before, and I have managed to exercise a couple of times this week.

I chose to eat soup when I went out for a meal, because I felt like it. Not because I was told to.

Yes, I have had some chocolate cake, but I have not felt miserable for it. That is the key as far as I am concerned. To not feel pressured to do something, but to do it because you want to.

With the Slimpod, I do not feel like I am forcing myself to do anything. Far from it. For it is not about denying myself anything. It is about finding the right balance that works for me. I choose what I eat, and how much I eat. I decide to exercise and for how long. I am looking for a lifestyle change and the Slimpod is helping me along.

Life-style Change

I am on an initial 12-week journey with my Slimpod. I am not expecting an overnight miracle. That would be impractical, as it will take some time to undo the habits of a lifetime. But by the end of it, I hope to be more comfortable around food. I hope to have achieved the goals I set out for myself at the start of this journey. I hope to be healthier and happier with the way I look and feel. I plan to eat to live, not live to eat. So there.

If you are looking to embark on your own Slimpod journey, here is a little something to get you started.

    1. Thank you Charlotte. So far, I am seeing subtle but really significant changes. I haven't felt the need to eat chocolate all week. That has never happened before.

  3. hope it works for you, but im sceptic, i dont believe in tablets, milkshakes or even a slimpod etc etc i believe that if you want to achieve things you need to have strong will, stop yourself from things which you feel i helping you to gain weight, i belive in a product swap (e.g. sweets, chocolates-fruits, nuts), i cant say im skinny, im opposite but im on the way to feeling comfortable in my weight, in my own body by eating right stuff and not torturing myself and my body

    1. That is the whole point of it, I think. It is for people like me who have no will power at all to control their poor lifestyles. It is a kind of mind-training exercise, so you are retraining your brain to make healthier choices. Almost a sort of hypnotherapy.

  7. I so know where you are coming from Vai. I am horrible with emotional eating, and when my stress level gets high the only thing I need or can do is bake, so there is even more food and goods in the house. A vicious cycle...
Anyway, good luck with your new journey. I have never heard of Slimpod and would love hearing how you are getting on :) x

  9. I've been having great success with Slimpods - good luck! :)
for me they have removed the resistance I was feeling to exercise and healthy eating - it was like a brick wall that I was trying to break though except I just kept crashing into it and rebounding - it's working for me at the moment and I couldn't be happier! :)

  10. i'm a bit of an emotional eater too, but because of eating problems in the past, i tend to restrict even with comfort foods and find i can't eat beyond a certain point. i have to be honest, i am always sceptical of this sort of thing ...but if it works for you, and you're happy then that's all that really matters :)
